The Candle

An unlit candle will never shine
It takes burning to bring forth its light
An unsung song will never be heard
Without the painstaking effort to write

The lyric and the melody
Will never vibrate the voice
We can use our pain just for suffering
Or in suffering make a choice

To use the vibrations,
The heartbeat of pain
Not to silence the voice
But to give it a name

Calling out to the darkness
Breathing life to the fire
Sharing our pain
Allows us to inspire

Others that will follow
On similar paths
When they can’t find their way
To speak up and ask

Have you been down this road?
Is the pathway clear?
Should I take this left?
Or turn right here?

Directions come from those
Further down the path
Who’ve burned their wick down
Through the pains of their past

To keep the light shining
So you would find the way clear
A glimmer of hope
To dry every tear

It’s through the suffering, the burning
The vibrating pain
That keeps the candle lit
Through the storms and the rain
